Driving and Parking in the Village

  • Bayside is a pedestrian place. Please watch your speed; go slow. Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit in the Village is 15 m.p.h.
  • Please park only in the space designated for your rental home.  Vehicles blocking emergency access will be towed.  Overnight camping and campers are prohibited.
  • The current Village parking ordinance and list of limited public parking areas can be found here.

Village Parks, Beaches and the Wharf

  • Public trash cans are not available.  To maintain enjoyable public spaces for everyone, users of public facilities must “leave no trace” and remove all their own trash.
  • The hours for the basketball court are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and are strictly enforced.  Please be considerate of cottages bordering the park. Village park users must be quiet by 10:00 p.m.  The wharf must be vacated by 11:00 p.m.
  • Rules governing the use and enjoyment of the wharf and floats can be found on the Waterfront Ordinance.  A summary of rules of conduct is posted at the entrance to the wharf.  Village lifeguards, wharfmaster and police officers exercise authority over activities on the wharf and floats.

Fires and Fireworks

  • Fireworks are prohibited in the Village.
  • State law and local ordinances severely restrict and/or require permits for fire pits and recreational fires.
  • Bonfires (fires larger than 2’ in diameter or with flames higher than 2’, which is the determination of when a campfire becomes a bonfire in the ordinance (see Section II.6.)) require both a permit from the Town of Northport and permission from the NVC Overseers.
  • Refer to the Fire Ordinance for specific information here.

Trash Collection, Zero-Sort Recycling, and Proper Drain Disposal

Collection
  • Trash and recycling are picked up every Monday and Thursday (even holidays) throughout the summer season.
  • Place your trash bags and recycling at the edge of the road, curb or driveway (whatever applies to your cottage) by 8:00 a.m. on pick up days.
Trash
  • Each black trash bag (up to 33 gallons) requires one Town of Northport sticker visibly attached to the bag.
  • Trash stickers cost $2.00 each and may be purchased at the Town of Northport Office, the Wentworth Family Grocery, and the Town of Northport Transfer Station (checks only accepted at the Transfer Station).
  • Racoons and skunks will rip up garbage bags left out (not in secured containers) overnight, so please do not leave food outside or put out your garbage bags the night before collection days.
  • Trash recycling are picked up every Monday throughout the year and every Monday and Thursday (even holidays) throughout the summer season.
Zero-Sort Recycling

  • Put recyclables in large paper “lawn and leaf” bags available at Hannaford, Aubuchon Hardware, Reny’s and similar stores.
  • No plastic grocery bags.
  • There is no charge for recycling; no trash sticker is required on the recycling bag.

Keep Bayside’s Sewer System Tip Top
  • Do your part to help keep Bayside’s sewer system in great shape. Remember to:
    • Only flush toilet paper down the toilet — everything else (even if it is labeled ‘flushable’) should be tossed in the garbage.
    • Don’t use the garbage disposal — toss all food waste in the trash.
    • Never put grease, fat, oil, dairy products, bones, or coffee grounds down the drain!
    • Never dump chemicals, paints, or solvents down the drain!
  • Read more about the do’s and don’ts of what to put down the drain in Bayside.

Dogs

  • Dogs enjoy our village and beaches as much as their owners. Please remember that all dogs must be leashed. In addition, homes are positioned closely, so please be considerate of your neighbors by being cognizant of your dog’s barking.
  • Dog owners are responsible to pick up and dispose of their dog’s excrement deposited on the land of others and/or public land and ways. Disposal shall be in appropriate receptacles. Violators shall be subject to a fine imposed by the Village Overseers of $25.00 per incident. The Dog Ordinance is available here.
  • For further information about dogs, including licensure, please read the Town of Northport’s Dog Control Ordinance  on the Town of Northport website.
